Question:Do birds prefer to eat in the open or in the woods?
Hypothesis:I think the birds will prefer to eat in the woods. Because the woods are more sheltered than the clearing. And there are more perches for them to sit.
Independent Variable: If the feeder is in the woods or in an open area.
Dependent Variable:How much food is eaten. I'll measure this by weighing it.
Control Variables:What kind of seed used, hight, the time left out, and color.
Materials:string, Peanut butter, pinecones, a mix of seeds, and a scale.
Experiment: hang two pinecone feeder in different locations (one will be the other in the woods.) The only difference between the two is where they are located. Leave them out for six days and then weight them.

Day 6

First day: No movement and no seed eaten.
Second day: Same story maybe it will take a long time for the birds to find the feeder.
Third day:It was wet and cold the birds did not come to the feeder.
Forth day: When I checked the clearing feeder nothing had been eaten. But when I went to check the woods feeder the whole thing had been stolen by squriels. That is also when I noticed that my mother had but up a plastic feeder up in the yard. This changed my experiment because that meant the birds could have been going to the other feeder. It also meant they may perfer a diffrent type of seed than the kind I was putting out. Meaning that I can not come to a scientific conculsion about this experiment. So from now on I will try and see if more birds are going to the plastic feeder or my pinecone feeder.
Fifth day: Snow blows in.
Sixth day: No birds in sight. With no birds to compare data to I conclud that most of the birds have gone south. Or aren't hungry.
